Pair of monumental Japanese Kutani porcelain lamps purchased late 1960s in Japan. Obtained from original owner. Each lamp has a label on bottom that reads: Trade Mark Genuine Kutani, Made in Japan. Kutani porcelain was first produced in Japan in middle of 17th century. It was revived in late 19th century and gained fame when displayed at the 1873 World Exposition. They are hand painted in shades of red with gold highlights. Large image on front is a peacock surrounded by floral designs. The back has a smaller floral design. Black base is a wood-like composite material. Shape has a beautiful 60s modern character. No shades are provided. The plugs are non-polarized. The sockets take a single watt bulb. Original finials are included. Cords & plugs are grey. Harps cannot be removed so lamps will be shipped with harps in place. One lamp's porcelain base is 3/8” shorter than other lamp. Substantial in weight at 12.5 lbs each Approximate Size: Height to top of porcelain base: 24 inches Height to top of socket: 27 inches Height to top of harp: 35 inches Widest diameter of porcelain: 10.5 inches Base diameter: 7 inches Condition: Lamps are in very good condition with no significant damage. No chips, but a small hairline crack on top of one lamp – see image. One harp is bent – left lamp in image of harps. Bases have some nicks and scratches that were previously touched up. Metal hardware has tarnished and shows age. The lamps do work as shown. Gold highlights show little loss of color. No shades are provided.
